Male artist Jay Hefner was tragically killed in Lincoln last weekend, a fact confirmed by his colleagues and partners in the industry.
A fundraiser organized by Hefner’s family said he was killed “in a moment of unnecessary gun violence while trying to protect his cousin in Lincoln from physical harm” during a family birthday celebration.
The Lincoln Police Department later confirmed the circumstances of the shooting.
In their official statement, they said, “At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, police responded to the 100 block of North 11th Street for reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment.”
“Despite life-saving measures by paramedics, the victim – a 24-year-old Lincoln man – succumbed to his injuries at approximately 5:37 a.m.”
