Fusaki Beach Resort Hotel & Villas

Fusaki Beach Resort Hotel & Villas

Located on Okinawa’s west coast of Ishigaki Island, far enough away from the crowds yet close to the island’s main attractions, the Tomisaki Beach Resort Hotel & Villas has long enjoyed a reputation among discerning travelers. But it has gained global recognition with its recent win at the 2025 World Luxury Awards in the Hotels, Spas and Restaurants category. It is one of Okinawa’s current leading destinations for travelers looking for a rejuvenating luxury experience, or for anyone looking for a refined, immersive nature stay.

What sets Fusaki apart is its seamless combination of the island’s natural beauty with thoughtful design, culinary excellence and high-end wellness experiences. Here, Ryukyuan-style red-tiled architecture blends with Ishigaki Island’s calm subtropical landscape, where you can step from your room to the turquoise coastline, and world-class spa treatments will help you blend into the slow, soothing pace of island life.

Here’s your guide to making the most of your stay.

Check In to Fusaki Beach Resort & Villas: A Hidden Village-like Luxury Resort

Spanning a vast stretch of beachfront property, Fusaki feels like its own little village. (To give an idea of its scale: There’s a free golf cart service that transports guests from the reception area to some of the more remote accommodations.) The design combines the comfort of a modern resort with a nod to traditional Ryukyuan culture, most notably its red-tiled roof and warm, earthy materials.

The resort does not have a central building, but rather pathways filled with tropical greenery, swimming pools and relaxation areas, with restaurants and amenities scattered throughout the resort. Guests can choose to stay in the north wing, which surrounds a lush courtyard surrounded by a shallow pool. The Garden Terrace, like a mini-hotel nestled within the hotel, with large windows and bright interiors; the Garden Villas with their own private porches; or the South Wing, which offers rooms like the Fusaki Corner Suite.

The hotel is very walkable and guests are encouraged to roam freely between the beach, pool area, spa and dining areas as they please.

The beach itself is one of Ishigaki’s most photogenic: wide, soft, and west-facing, perfect for photographing fiery island sunsets. Guests can choose to try jet skiing, dragon boating or rafting, and rent equipment on the beach. Alternatively, they can enjoy the resort’s multiple pools, including a children’s pool with a large waterslide, a tranquil oceanfront pool with ample seating areas, and an indoor pool in the wellness center.

Food and Drink: Award-winning dining and poolside cocktails

A highlight of the resort, a must-see even for repeat guests, is Hanaré, which has won multiple World Luxury Awards for its dining. Helmed by chef Seigon Sorimachi, the restaurant focuses on innovative fusion cuisine, drawing inspiration from Japanese, Chinese and Southeast Asian cultures. But its dominant ethos is Ryukyuan cuisine, and the restaurant’s multi-course menu draws heavily on local ingredients: island vegetables, subtropical fruits, fresh coastal seafood and premium Okinawan pork. (Reservation required before 3 pm on the same day.)

Expect seasonal dishes that highlight the area’s biodiversity. While we were there, we sampled perfectly braised red snapper, which came in a rainbow-colored bag that you opened at the table and you were immersed in the aroma of the dish; tompo pork, made with Ishigaki’s famous pineapple pork and a variety of local vegetables, arranged with precision in a diorama; tender beef, smoked at the table; and a delicious “fruit soup” for dessert.

In addition to Hanaré, there is the fusion restaurant Ryukyu Shintenchi, a sumptuous buffet at Ishigaki Bold Kitchen, and the seasonal Beachside Grill Kachibai, which serves American barbecue. For poolside drinks, head to The Star Bar, which serves tropical cocktails as well as wine and beer.

Recovery: Bamford Treatment at Fusaki Spa

Wellness travelers will find the resort’s spa reason enough to visit. Fusaki Spa offers official Bamford treatments sourced from England’s Cotswolds, emphasizing organic ingredients, skilled touch and a holistic restorative approach.

At the spa, you can choose from a variety of different treatments. Options range from tension-relieving body treatments using botanical oils to customized facials. The Bamford Signature is particularly recommended – the massage therapist uses heated and cooled stones during the treatment to release muscle tension by running them along the skin.

In addition to the spa, the resort also has a large public open-air bath, a small indoor bath, a sauna and a gym.

Beyond Fusaki Beach Resort & Villas: What to Do in Ishigaki Island

While many travelers choose to spend most of their time within the resort’s spacious grounds, Tomisaki is also an ideal base for exploring Ishigaki Island. It’s an easy drive to places like Kabira Bay, the island’s famous emerald green lagoon; the Tamatorizaki Observation Deck, with its sweeping coastal views; and the ferry terminal for day trips to Taketomi Island, Iriomote Island and Kuroshima Island. The hotel can also help you book sea activities, cruises, island tours, eco-tours and unique cultural activities on the island.

But if your goal is just to rest, the resort is designed so you never need or want to leave. From morning yoga on the beach to lazy afternoons between the pool and the sea, a sumptuous lunch, a treatment at Fusaki Spa and a set menu dinner at Hanaré, you can have a fulfilling and deeply rejuvenating day without leaving home.
