The 7 Best Luxury Hotel Bars in Tokyo
Twenty years later it starred in Sofia Coppola’s film Lost in TranslationNew York Grill & Bar at Park Hyatt Tokyo will reopen next month on the 52nd floor of Shinjuku Park Tower. To celebrate, we thought we’d take a look at some of Tokyo’s best hotel bars for our latest news 7 list.

Tokyo Imperial Hotel Old Imperial Bar
Paying homage to Frank Lloyd Wright, the architect of one of Japan’s most iconic hotels, the Old Imperial Bar is considered a treasured Tokyo institution. Located on the second floor of Tokyo’s main building, the Imperial Hotel: it offers a window into the past. The design of the place, including dim lighting, wooden furniture, and artifacts from the original 1923 Art Deco building, makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
The bar’s standout drink is undoubtedly the Mount Fuji, the Imperial Hotel’s first original cocktail. The recipe, which uses Old Tom gin as a base and six other ingredients, has remained unchanged since it was first conceived 101 years ago.
There are several restaurants and bars on site, but for a true taste of history, the ancient Imperial Bar is the place to be.

Peter: The Peninsula Tokyo Bar
Peter: The Bar is located on the 24th floor of The Peninsula Tokyo, a modern and stylish hotel with violet lighting, artificial trees and sweeping views of the Imperial Palace, Hibiya Park and the Ginza district.
It offers a variety of creative cocktails created by award-winning mixologist Mari Kamata. Highly recommended is the Tokyo Joe, which combines Bombay Sapphire, plum liqueur and Drambuie with cranberry and lemon juice. It is named after a 1949 film starring Humphrey Bogart and Sessue Hayakawa, which was partly shot in Tokyo. It was the first Hollywood production allowed to be filmed in Japan after World War II.
Opposite the bar is Peter, an elegant restaurant that combines French art and Japanese sophistication.

Grand Hyatt Tokyo Oakgate Hotel
Located on the sixth floor of the luxurious Grand Hyatt Roppongi, The Oak Door Bar is an elegant and intimate bar designed by famous interior designer Tony Chi. There’s a great selection of craft beers, spirits and wines, but we recommend trying one of The Oak Door’s classic cocktails, like the After Dark Negroni with Bombay Sapphire and Café Campari. It’s the perfect way to start the day before heading to the nearby Oak Door restaurant for dinner. For those who don’t want to fill up, the bar snacks are impressive, especially the mushroom and beef sliders.
Another bar worth checking out at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo is Maduro, a chic jazz lounge that offers live entertainment every night along with an extensive whiskey and cigar selection.

Rooftop Bar at Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills
The rooftop bar is the pinnacle of the luxurious Andaz Hotel on the 52nd floor of Toranomon Hills, a coveted spot for sophisticated relaxation high above the city. It is a refined space with an indoor lounge and semi-open terrace offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Japanese capital and its glittering bay.
The bar’s mixologists create a range of innovative cocktails, including the slightly sweet Kiyohime Amazake, featuring Gray Goose vodka, amazake, matcha and yuzu, and the vibrant and smoky Gin Rose Hip Cosmo. After a pepper steak dinner at The Tavern – Grill & Lounge on the ground floor, it’s a great place to have a nightcap.
Without leaving the 51st floor, guests can also enjoy reasonably priced cocktails and highballs as part of The Tavern’s “High Up” highball happy hour.

Nineteen Eighty Lounge and Bar at Hyatt Regency Tokyo
Hyatt Regency Nishi-Shinjuku will undergo the largest renovation in the hotel’s 45-year history in 2025. The refurbishment is marked by Nineteen Eighty Lounge & Bar, a stylish all-day venue serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea.
The best time to visit, though, is in the evening, when guests can choose from an extensive menu of classic cocktails, including the King of Fruits, a drink made with all parts of a melon. In front of the bar is the hotel’s famous Swarovski crystal chandelier, and behind it is a large clock inspired by the iconic clock of New York’s Grand Central Terminal.
Hyatt Regency offers an array of first-class dining options, from traditional Japanese cuisine at Shinjuku Nadaman to exquisite Chinese specialties at Jade Garden.

Punch Room, Tokyo Edition, Ginza
As the name suggests, the bar is inspired by the long history of punch, a drink that originated on merchant ships in the 17th century. It eventually found its way onto the tables of the nobility while retaining the adventurous and international spirit of its merchant ship origins.
Located on the second floor of Ginza Tokyo Edition Hotel, Punch Room conveys this dual feeling of luxury and discovery with its extensive menu and interior design inspired by 19th-century London private clubs. However, it’s not just about boxing.
There are a variety of cocktails to choose from, many with interesting names like “Taiyaki-kun’s Revenge.” Referencing Japan’s best-selling single of all time, this is a stylish espresso martini with a spicy kick Togashiko With a hint of passion fruit.

Stellar Garden, Sky Bar and Restaurant, Tokyo Prince Hotel Garden Tower
The Prince Hotel Garden Tower in Tokyo celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with a major renovation of the hotel. It is adjacent to Shiba Park and is famous for its stunning views of Tokyo Tower, especially from the Sky Bar & Dining Stellar Garden on the 33rd floor.
This is one of the best vantage points in the city to view what many consider to be the capital’s outstanding landmark. Although pricey, it’s a delightful date spot, and for those who really want to splurge, the Platinum Seat Plan is worth considering, which includes a bottle of champagne and the chef’s signature appetizers.
In the dining area, guests can enjoy a set menu or choose from the à la carte menu. Highly recommend the Kobe beef burger.
