Review of global phenomena
I still clearly remember the first time I accidentally fell Inuyasha. I couldn’t have been more than seven. I couldn’t sleep, so I sneaked into the living room and watched TV. Unbeknownst to me, Cartoon Network had transitioned into amateur programming. With the quiet glow of the screen, I saw him for the first time.
The image of the sword-wielding, silver-locked, dog-eared boy was ingrained in my subconscious, and was reawakened a few years later when I picked up a comic—my introduction to the medium. This allowed me to read all 56 volumes of the original manga and watch all 193 episodes of the anime series before I graduated from elementary school. I successfully convinced all of my friends to join in my obsession, and I’m proud to be one of the cultivators of anime and Japanese pop culture in my small hometown, where less than five percent of the population is Asian.
InuyashaFor many fans around the world, it is the gateway into the world of anime. Transcending language barriers and cultures, it remains a cult classic and is considered one of the pillars of anime’s development. Now, as the InuYasha anime celebrates its 25th anniversary, let’s take an in-depth look back at the history and legacy of this iconic series.
