Meet the handsome anime idol in the Tokyo Yam series

Traveling through the railroad tracks in Tokyo, you will find a variety of memorable icons to mark your destination. From local crafts to cute mascots and station stamps, Japan’s train stations are everyday attractions in their own right.

However, JR East took another step. It combines the excitement of railway, idol culture and handsome anime “husband” to provide us with idol latch.

JR’s initiative

While Japan’s public transportation is known worldwide for its punctuality and convenience, going to school and work can be a monotonous day job. JR’s solution: Station Idol.

In 2021, East Japan Railway Corporation and major advertising company AOI Pro. , talent company Amuse and Media Broadcaster origami partner (acquired by Sony’s Aniplex two years ago) have introduced 30 idol characters for a unique and unprecedented project. Each represents the 30 train stations of the iconic Green Circle of JR Yamanote series, serving Tokyo’s Central Metropolis.

Instead ikemenmeans handsome, these ethereal idols are cleverly nicknamed initiative (Contains the station of Japanese words, Attached).

Not only do these characters provide memorable faces for each train station, but also provide sightseeing advice, music and radio shows, and merchandise. You can also learn about their personality, birthday and blood type.

Star-studded characters

The story is when the idol works as a service staff during the day and then performs in the evening. Their mission is to make their respective communities active and cheer on commuters as they start their busy schedule. Their fans are “passengers”.

In reflecting the protagonist traditions of the anime, you may have noticed that the idol’s names are full of puns and allusions. Kyuto Takeshita in Harajuku is a drama on the “cute” and famously fashionable Takeshita Street. Meanwhile, Shibuya’s Kosei Hachiya is a clear tribute to the city’s legendary faithful dog hachikoits bronze memorial statue is a popular gathering place.

The actors at the station idol latch also include anime veterans. The face and head of the idol group, Rion Shoji of Tokyo Station, voiced by Kensho Ono Jojo’s strange adventure and Kuroko’s basketball Fame. Other famous voice talents include Free! Iwatobi Swimming Club and Fruit basket Just like Mikado Aobazuku of ikebukuro, Atsushi Tamaru haikyuu! and Asterisk War Yuki Shindo and Kazuhiko inoue as New Cook Demon killer and Naruto Series as Testumhi Udaka of Shimbashi.

On the occasion of celebrating its first anniversary, Latch hosted its first live show at Shin Takanawa, the Big Prince Hotel in Tokyo, with the theme of “All Aboard!” in 2022. The group currently has 22 singles on the record.
