Moflin Pet Casio

Those who remember Furbies, IDOG or Tamagotchi Knowing that virtual pets are nothing new. I myself had a tamagotchi in the early 2000s, begging my mom to buy me one and would frantically press the button to feed between classes. Now, electronics giant Casio has unveiled the latest step toward a somewhat confusing but adorable companion of robots. Its name is Moflin, it is fluffy, limited, and comes with advanced AI technology in the modern twist.

According to its manufacturer, it can show more than 4 million unique personality traits based on “upgraded” methods.

The return of virtual pets

Mofflin wrapped in soft fur, her eyes peeking from the inside, emitting gentle kus and tremolo, between the squeak of guinea pigs and the kitten’s purr sauce. It comes with artificial intelligence that allows it to respond to your voice and touch, which explains the high-priced label – the quirky Moflin retails for ¥59,400, or about $400. According to Casio, these vague little creatures have broad abilities: they recognize people who most frequently talk with their owners and respond accordingly, and they also develop according to the environment.

Moflin comes in soft grey or light caramel. Paired with Casio’s Moflife smartphone app, you can monitor Moflin’s emotional state, observe the development of its personality and track interactions with it. That said, this is not without limitations – Moflin has no limbs, so all physical expression comes from head tilting, body swaying and squeaking. It arrives with its own white plastic crib, which is twice as good as the charging dock.

40,000 possible personalities

Casio said Mofflin could develop more than 40,000 different personality patterns, from cowardly to adventure, affectionate to transcendence. Mofflin also actively “learned” from its owners. If you talk to it frequently, gently pamper it or get close to it, it will remember these moments and start to see you as its primary caregiver. On the other hand, if you ignore it or scare too much, it can become secluded, shy, or anxious. Over the course of 50 days, it “matures” and adapts to its response, voices, and even how it moves to better match your interactive style.

“People can feel that their Moflins are different from other Moflins because robots (such as animals) show personal personality and emotions, except for different growth and sleep cycles,” Casio’s head Erina Ichikawa told Huge.

Moflin Membership

Casio has not stopped selling robots to you. They also created the Moflin Membership Club, which costs a hefty ¥6,600 a year to join, and offers an almost comically through set of services for your AI pet, including health check-ups (for maintenance and malfunctions), a salon for fur touch-ups and even a “Revival” service that will recover a lost Moflin, should tragedy befall it — provided its data has been backed up on the MofLife app.

You can get your own Mufflin here On Casio’s official website (although sold out), or try your luck in major electronics stores in Japan. Yes, there is a capture: For the moment, Mufflin is only for sale in Japan
