Hurry couples who combine with this annoying habit: Study
Have you heard it? Gossip couples are together.
A new study by UC Riverside, titled “Spillover Tea, Honey: Small talk can predict happiness among same-sex couples and different genders,” reveals that couples who gossip together not only get together more deeply, but are happier and more satisfied with romantic romances.
“Everyone is gossipy whether we want to admit it or not,” Chandler Spahr, the first author of the study, told UC Riverside. “Gogle is everywhere.”
This may not be a bad thing.
A team of researchers tracked 76 romantic couples, both homosexual and different genders, using a portable hearing device called an electronically activated recorder (EAR).
The device passively records daily conversation clips.
However, it is worth noting that the device captures only about 14% of participants’ daily speeches, with all recorded couples from Southern California.
According to the results, participants chatted on average for 38 minutes a day, of which nearly 29 minutes were chatted with their partners.
Everyone has done it for this.
Overall, gossip reports a higher level of personal happiness more frequently. Gossip is also related to better relationship quality, although the effect is slightly obvious.
Homosex couples generally report higher happiness than homosexuals of their gender, especially women and women.
Senior writer Megan Robbins explains gossip can be a tool for emotional intimacy.
For example, she notes that after often putting social gatherings together, couples re-collect what they learned from the room and think of everyone else.
This after-the-fact gossip (whether it’s a playful cat or a positive reflection) helps to enhance the consistency and feelings of intimacy, trust and solidarity in the heart.
“When you go home from a party, having a negative gossip with a person’s romantic partner may indicate that the couple’s bond is stronger than when they are at parties, and that in active chats can extend the fun experience.”
“This may enhance people’s perception of partners in the same team, enhance feelings of connection, trust and other positive relationship qualities, and contribute to overall well-being.”
The study builds on Robbins’ pre-2019 research that debunks popular myths about gossip, like believing that women gossip more malicious or poorer gossip more frequently.
The study found the truth to be more subtle, suggesting that gossip is neither inherent nor limited to any population.
Meanwhile, in the new study, the researchers did not distinguish between positive, negative or neutral gossip, proving that this is an act of sharing opinions.
So if you are one of many Americans who say they are too stressed about money and can have sex, maybe try sprinkling some tea to make your partner connect.
