Singles in New York City are tired of dating online

They have some hot spots

At Buzzy’s new dating event and pairing, Gotham sent someone to try to sell audiences to the audience with a three to five-minute PowerPoint demo.

“I have a lot of shy friends who are really great, they don’t thrive in typical dating apps or speed dating because they are introverts,” said Joe Teblum, founder of the event. “I also see the trend of people wanting to meet in person, especially after Kuvid.”

At an event held last week in Slate, Flatiron District, 16 locals gave hundreds of speeches to the audience. There are bullet points, short videos and stocks.

“He can explain things without letting you fall asleep,” Kedar Venkataramani’s cousin told the 30-year-old, 5-foot-8-foot intellectual property attorney who lives in New York City. “He has a sharp mind, a suit and a zero self.”

The cousin also praised Venkataramani as a football fan and a zealot in taste menu. “He will take you to Broadway shows, including ‘Hamilton’ or ‘Mormon’,” she said. “He’s Citi everywhere like his solo tour.”

The crowd was particularly excited by the speech by 33-year-old firefighter Chris Puch, who lives in Staten Island and is a pseudo-bank for Tik Tok because he is a clumsy civil servant.

His matchmaker friend smiled and said, “Even if I saw him sitting and eating a $50 taco clock at one time, he would do your health for you, so you don’t have to worry about him being too healthy.” “If you guys like to travel, he’ll love it. He’s a world traveler, he’s been around the world and he’s looking for someone other than himself.”

Anand Tamirisa, 33, lives in Chelsea and works in investment banking, is another single. He admits that even the dating master’s friend gave most of his speeches.

“I worked at PowerPoint all day and it was easy for me,” he said. “I did it in two hours. I even had a stock on the top and on the stuff.”

His deck includes information after “inspired by Jay-Z,” “work for investment banking but not wearing vests” and “stand-comedy at a world-class diving bar.”

It turns out to be effective. By the time he left the stage, Tamirisa made five new “follow” requests on Instagram. (At the end of each speech, matchmaker friends tell the crowd how to get to the single, whether it’s via Instagram, email or text.)

“If I were to be together with one of them, it would be a very good story,” Tamirisa said.

Pitch & Pair is held twice a month at the Round City venue, including the City Winery in the Meat Packing Area and the Second City in Brooklyn. It costs $40 to $60, including two tickets for the event – $15 to $25 sitting among the audience. The next game is on the warning in the Lower East Side on August 4.

The event was sold out regularly shortly after its announcement – in just 34 hours.

When Teblum first came up with the idea about a year ago, interest was limited.

“Only one person wants to give a speech,” he said of the first match. The event was held at the Kilo Bravo Bar in Williamsburg and attracted only a few people outside his friends.

In some early iterations, people tend to bake friends and try to be fun. The audience sometimes burst into “boos”.

Now, Teblum tells participants to stay positive.

“The crowd became like this,” he said. “Like a matchmaker, showing photos of someone’s dog or hobbies, everyone cheered.”

Still, Sophia Demetriou was the first single at last week’s event, and he said the experience was a bit uncomfortable. Her former roommate praised her virtues, including that she never lost the game of Backgammon, could “serve” and was a pizza cabin connoisseur.

“It’s really scary,” said Demetriou, a 26-year-old fashion designer. “But I do think it’s the way people are going to date in the future. It makes sense.”
