Roman tombs and ceramic glasses found in Montenegro

An extremely rare intoxicating glass with a scene of a fight against beasts, a scene of a fight against beasts was found in a Roman tomb in the ancient city of Doclea near Podgorica in Montenegro. Gold jewelry and seven other glass containers were also found in the grave.

The history of the grave dates back to the 4th century and belongs to a woman of high social status, as evidenced by the tremendous wealth of her grave. Some skeletal remains were preserved, mainly separated from the lower half of her body, but a preliminary examination of the bones found that she was very tall for women of an era.

She was lying on her back, using a pair of gold earrings decorated with green glass beads and a multi-chain gold necklace alternating with small jet beads. Mount four spectacular spherical pearls on each side of the necklace and on each end of the button. Other grave merchandise include balm (small containers for officers and cosmetics), cups, jugs, pyxis (small boxes) with bone pins and spatula applicators, and a set of bone fragments for board games.

Of the eight glass containers found in her grave, two of them are particularly noteworthy: a large bowl made of dark iridescent glass, a trademark of the glass factory of Colonia Claudia Ara Ara agrippinensium, modern gurolon and ceramic go.

DiaTretic Glass is a highly decorative mesh glassware with deep relief, usually represented by few characters in open web designs. Decoration is usually geometric bands, ciliary patterns and deep relief inscriptions in Latin or Greek. There are only 10 complete diagnostic vases, many like the examples found in France, that have to be pieced together from fragments.

The Diatreta found in the grave is the second (the first) ever in Montenegro, unique among the few comparable containers, which can depict the venator, a gladiator who hunts the arena on the arena, possibly under attack by large five-pointed stars. The wine glass is made of two different colors of glass, yellow and green, which makes it even more outstanding and is an example of the highest quality of the glass manufacturing process. It is scattered and requires a lot of protection to piece together.
