Seeking inspiration in the plateau era means categorizing through dazzling aesthetics, ephemeral microskeletons and predictable characters – however, Tiara is a graphic designer and model from Tokyo who prefer to do it through the cloaked monsters that never get lost in the shuffle. Her vision is layered and primitive. Her Instagram profile looks like a series of stills from the Arthouse movie, filled with rich jewellery tones, art deco references and whimsical Stored Ensembles.

“As a graphic designer, I’ve been thinking about shapes, contrasts and compositions,” Tiara said. “I collected scenes – from old movies, old-fashioned posters, moments on the street – pieced them together like mood boards in motion. I love elegance and feel a little unexpected, like the soft hanging of sharp shoulders or classic shapes with surreal twists.” This element of juxtaposition is exactly what she likes the city’s fashion world most. “Tokyo fashion is full of contrast…everyone tells their own story through clothes without following a single rulebook.”

When asked about the best places to shop in Tokyo, Tiara highlighted three locations. “Solakzade is a mysterious jeweler and optician at Jingumae, full of character,” she said. “For designer gems, I recommend you to be at Aoyama’s Super Point Market; it is curated like a gallery and offers regular discounts. For bold, nostalgic works, check out the bed at Harajuku.” Tiara now also brings us into four of her favorite brands, pulling their unique vocabulary work.

Mame Kurogouchi

Founded in 2010, Mame Kurogouchi is a women’s clothing brand that combines designers’ own traditions and natural experiences. By embracing the character’s outline and elegant outline, the brand pays homage to a timeless and modern femininity. “Kurrogouchi creates a beautiful tension: soft, feminine and structured,” Tiara said.

The S/S and F/W 2025 series expands designers’ exploration of “Katachi” (“form”) to draw inspiration from the book Japanese form (1978) and its description of traditional lacquerware. Kurogouchi strives to make the inherent grace, dignified spirit and striking color contrasts of lacquerware through rich textured fabrics and meticulous pattern making.

Japanese fashion brand Yohei Ohno

Yohei Ohno

“Yohei Ohno always adds a twist – unexpected cuts, sleeves or colors make you double capture,” Tiara notes. Like Tiara, Yohei Ohno draws a lot of inspiration from various art fields, especially in design and architecture, which is evident in his bold and poetic visual language.

Since its inception in 2014, Ohno’s label of the same name has attracted attention for its evocative form production and stylish practicality. “Recently, my focus has shifted to how forms seamlessly integrate into the daily lives of the people who wear them.” Ohno’s deep curiosity about the body as a place of expression is reflected in his experimental sculptural designs that boldly challenge the traditional definition of femininity.

Japanese fashion brand fetico Japanese fashion brand fetico

fetico

Fetico captures the creative vision of designer Emi Funayama, emphasizing the beauty of feminine form by reinterpreting classic styles. “Forgery embodies the power of women, with sculptures that make me feel both sexy and powerful,” Tiara said. Funayama, often inspired by the old-fashioned clothing and design sensibility of mysterious times, works with Japanese textile manufacturers and artisans.

The brand’s S/S 2025 collection begins with the accidental encounter of 1980s tapered pants and busts in a vintage Paris store. Funayama has attracted interest, and since then, delved into fashion magazines and met American supermodel and actress Veronica Webb, a sophisticated idol and her collection. “I’m fascinated by people who hide something. Models pose coolly in magazines, secret women in movies – they inspire my imagination,” Funayama said.

“Harunobumurata’s minimalism is whispered with intimacy – never cold, always striking,” Tiara said. Founded in 2018 by designer Harunobu Murata, Harunobumurata is a luxury fashion brand that brings together the best materials and technologies in Italy that Murata researches and works on, as well as his home in Japan.

Murata’s work breaks away from established ideas about clothing and maintains a relaxed sense of simplicity when using abstraction, geometry and movement. Titled “But the Essence of Things,” the S/S 2025 series takes inspiration from the work of modernist sculptor Constantin Brâncu, exploring the hidden meaning behind exquisite, tranquil forms. The breathtaking series features timely fixing the flowing fabric, which seems to be a smooth fabric carved from stone.
