Duckweed Comics Will Be Inspired by Jack Jeanne Visual Nove Game

A new story in the Jack Jenny universe

“Duckweed” is set within the world of “Jack Jeanne”, the Otome Visual Nove Game where Ishida used to work as a character designer and concept creator. The two-part comic will explore the stories of characters in the game that are not seen in the main storyline.

According to official announcements, the comic follows Kiito Minorikawa, a first-year student at Univeil Theatre School, and despite his smallness, he was appointed as the assistant to the Russian class monitor. While the opera-themed school appears charming and lively on the surface, it avoids certain issues that Minorikawa has to navigate.

The second part of the comic will be released on May 19 in the June issue of Ultra Jump.

The creator behind the Tokyo Ghoul

Sui Ishida has made a name for “Tokyo Ghoul,” a dark fantasy series that aired on Shueisha’s weekly Young Jump from 2011 to 2014. The series and its sequel, “Tokyo Ghoul”, have gained wide popularity and have been adapted into an anime series, video games and a live-action movie. Since completing “Tokyo Ghoul” in 2018, Ishida has been working on “Choujin X”, a manga that follows high school students who have acquired superhuman abilities. Unlike his weekly schedule, “Tokyo Ghoul,” Ishida adopted a more flexible publication rhythm of “Choujin X”, allowing him to focus on quality rather than quantity.

In 2019, Ishida began working with Broccoli on the Nintendo Switch game “Jack Jeanne” to combine visual novel storytelling with rhythm games. The game centers on Kisa Tachibana, a young woman who disguises herself as a man to attend an all-male opera school. Ishida was heavily involved in the project, creating concepts, character designs, and contributing to the story with Shin Towada.

Super jump and special release

“Duckweed” will publish Ultra Jump, a monthly Seinen comic magazine, founded in 1999, is an offshoot of the weekly Young Jump. The magazine is known for its more mature theme comics targeting young adult male readers.

In honor of the release, Ultra Jump’s May Issues will include a special detachable comic cover “Jack Jeanne Foliage ~ Amber Onyx ~ Onyx ~ Onyx ~”, a comic collection released on April 17. The series features comic stories from Jack Jeanne’s universe, making it the perfect companion to the new “DuckWeed” series.

Where to find duck grass comics

Japanese comic readers can purchase Ultra Jump magazine nationwide starting April 18. For international fans, availability will depend on import choices and potential future localization efforts.

The digital version of Ultra Jump is available through a variety of Japanese e-book platforms, although access may be subject to regional restrictions. Fans of Sui Ishida outside Japan will want to follow announcements from publishers like Viz Media, which has previously localized Ishida’s work to an English-speaking audience.

Although the English version of “Duckweed” has not been confirmed yet, the popularity of Ishida’s previous work shows that future international releases may be possible.
