Tokyo Animation Award 2025: All Winners and Awards
The twelfth year Tokyo Animation Awards Festival (TAAF) March 10 at the Toshima Civic Center in Ikebukuro. The festival presents film screenings, animation workshops, group discussions and various special events to celebrate the culture of domestic and international animation.
There were 21 awards at the ceremony commemorating veterans and rising artists who have contributed to global animation innovation.
“We need a story of hope… a message of repair and solidarity, not a division. The film has the ability to heal and bring us together,” said director and jury member Suresh Eriyat.

Animation Award of the Year
The focus of the TAAF annual awards category is on animations screened in Japan from October 2023 to September 2024. A total of 417 works were nominated. Best feature film, best TV series and individual awards are selected by industry professionals, while Animation Fan Awards are selected by the public.


Best TV Series: Frozen: Beyond the End of the Journey
Freeze: Beyond the End of the Journey Yamada’s Kanehito is adapted from the comic of the same name. The TV series premiered in September 2023 with 28 episodes directed by Keiichiro Saito.

Best Sound & Performance: Evan Telephone
Evan Call is an American composer who began his musical career in Japan in 2012. His works include NHK’s drama series The 13th master of the shogunand anime series such as Purple evergreen and My happy marriage.

Masami Iwasaki
Masami Iwasaki has served as producer and production assistant in various series, e.g. Momi and La Seine No Hoshi.

Kazuhide tomonaga

Sachiko Nonaka
Sachiko Nonaka is the leading color coordinator. She is one of the founding artists of Shin-ei animation and has worked in early production of the company’s longest series, i.e. Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan. Nonaka served as color coordinator for 22 Crayon Shin-chan Movie.
Shuichi Kakesu
Shuichi Kakesu is a film and television editor who is known for his work The ghost in the shell and Cowboy Bebop: Movie. As the industry transitions from film to digital editing, Kakesu has established Japan’s first digital editing system and continues to research further innovation.
Seiji Suzuki
Music Director Seiji Suzuki contributed to the scores of many animation works. His work includes mentoring multiple Anpanman Movies and Lupin’s third series.
Kenyu Horiuchi
Kenyu Horiuchi is a voice actor with over 400 credits on IMDB. With over 40 years of experience, he expresses his roles in an extensive library of popular series, e.g. piece,,,,, Spy X Family,,,,, Jinkamu,,,,, Demon killer and Naruto. Horiuchi is also known for his frequent voiceover of Brad Pitt.
Contest Award
The purpose of these awards is to discover new talents and showcase original animation works from all over the world. All entries are evaluated on four criteria: innovative vision, popular appeal, and technology. This year, TAAF received 1,031 submissions, which were narrowed to 26 shorts and four feature film nominations.


Featured Animation Award: Boat in the Garden

Best Student Movies: Yobi and Amari: The Story of Spare Parts
Miou Hiruma from Tsukuba University is crowned as the winner of her short film Best Student Movie Yobi and Amari: The Story of Spare Parts. Although still a student, Hiruma has served as an animator, comic artist, illustrator and writer.
