The Iron Age Divination Spoon was found on the Man Island-​​

The Iron Age bronze spoon was believed to have been used to foreseeing, and the Parish of Patrick discovered the future in the parish of Isle of Man. It is one of only 28 examples of such spoons in the world and the first spoon to be found on a human island.

The spoon has a wide strawberry-shaped bowl that looks like small leaves on each side of the base. There are two carved lines intersecting on the deepest cross of the bowl. The handle is round with a hemispherical projection in the middle.

Allison Fox, curator of Manx National Heritage Archaeology, said:

“Drawing back to 400 B.C. – to about 400-100 B.C., it is one of the most interesting items found on the island. Discovery of the Iron Age is relatively scarce, and bronze spoons are rare to date from this period, which makes This is even more noticeable. Although it sounds simple, as we call it a spoon, it is indeed an unusual discovery that illustrates the potential prehistoric ritual activities that take place on a human island.” […]

“Spoons are usually found in pairs, and it is suggested that some form of liquid be poured into a spoon with a cross, which will tell you some information about the future regardless of the quarter it lands. Details of such rituals are lost in time.

The spoon was discovered by metal detective Rob Middleton on the private land of David Anderson, a farmer on the west coast of the island. Discoverers and landowners have donated the spoon to the Manx National Collection. As of Valentine’s Day, it is permanently displayed in a house in Manannan, a museum dedicated to the history of human beings near the site of discovery.
