The Importance of Twelve Step Groups

Sex and porn addicts must attend only two types of 12-step meetings: those they want to attend and those they don’t.

In 12-step meetings, recovering sex and porn addicts find a safe place to talk about their active addiction, its consequences, and the trials and tribulations of recovery and healing. They can also simply stay updated and share anything that’s affecting their lives—because everything in a recovering sex or porn addict’s life affects his or her emotional health and therefore sexual sobriety. Generally speaking, sex and porn addicts worry that what they share will not be well received, that they will find others nodding in agreement with what they say, agreeing with their feelings (if not their actual circumstances), and certainly not passing judgment .
