Were you dumped before Christmas? “Stingy” dating

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – especially if you’re in love.

After a period of love, many newlyweds spend the holidays spending quality time together or meeting each other’s families for the first time.

However, other stunned lovers have found themselves screwed – or “got bullied” – thanks to sleazy dating trends.

According to Ask Men, being mean is the barbaric act of ditching your partner because you don’t want to buy them a Christmas or Hanukkah gift.

Chris Pleines, founder of Datingscout, told the website: “People who break off relationships before Christmas or birthdays often do so to avoid the financial expense of buying gifts, hence the term ‘miser’.”

But stinginess is not the only reason behind stinginess.

The term also refers to being dumped before the holidays because your partner realizes that they simply don’t want to spend time with you during the holidays or introduce you to their family.

Being mean is the opposite of “sledding” – a tendency that keeps twentysomethings in dead-end relationships so they don’t spend Christmas alone.

The sleds drag their love interests – like they’re on a sleigh – through the holidays, then end things quickly after New Year’s.

Being stingy is not the only cause of being stingy.

For those brave enough to date after December 31st, 2025 is set to bring a slew of new romance trends.

One such trend is “geek matching,” a practice in which prospective partners find and embrace shared kinks, according to Plenty of Fish.

Rachel DeAlto, dating expert at Plenty of Fish, says geek matching is all about “embracing our individuality and authenticity.”

“When we put less pressure on ourselves, dating becomes more about having fun and enjoying new experiences,” DiAlto adds.
