Triggers – Sexual and Relationship Healing
All your daily inspiration can be found in Sex and Porn Addiction Treatment and Recovery. Used here with permission of the author.
If we can learn to recognize triggers and stop them before they cause cravings, we have a better chance of staying sober.
Unfortunately, no matter the level of addiction, triggers are inevitable. Think of alcoholics driving past billboards advertising beer, scotch and vodka. Think of a drug addict watching a crime drama where the “criminal” is selling or using drugs. Think of all the attractive people (i.e. potential sexual partners) that a sex or porn addict sees every day. Then consider the rollercoaster of life that anyone with an addiction goes through and the emotions it causes. Triggers are everywhere, and as addicts, there’s not much we can do about them except learn to recognize them and deal with them in healthy ways when they occur.
