Passengers on a luxury cruise ship were stranded in Belfast as their ship underwent urgent and unexpected repairs.

With the Villa Vie Odyssey docked in Northern Ireland, cruise ship passengers have plenty of time to fall in love with the capital city and each other.

Angela Harsanyi and Gian Perroni met in Belfast four months ago when they were due to embark on a three-year, 425-destination cruise , they announced their engagement this week.

Hassani, 53, of Colorado, and Peroni, 62, of Canada, discovered they were “made for each other” after being forced to stay at a local hotel in the “magnificent” city.

“About six weeks ago we started going back and forth to the boat together every day,” Hassani told the Guardian.

“It was about an hour’s walk round trip every day. Through that we really started to discover how similar we were and how much we enjoyed each other’s company. We found that an hour’s walk wasn’t long enough… We found that we did have a lot in common and hope to be more than just friends.”

The pair now have matching tattoos and plan to get married on a boat in April while sailing between the Panama Canal and Peroni’s former home in Costa Rica.

The captain will marry the couple as part of a “big wedding.”

People on cruise ships either rent or buy villas, which range in price from about $120,600 to $348,300.

Harsanyi bought the home on the cruise ship with her sister, Lisa, who will join her in the coming months, but Perroni doesn’t mind.

“What I really like about Gian is that it doesn’t bother him at all. He really respects that it’s a girls’ trip and that’s what I’m here for – it’s hard to find someone who’s open to that when they’re first married man,” she shared.

She ended up getting the villa because about 2.5 years ago she decided she needed to change her life.

“I decided to change everything in my life,” she said. “This is going to sound kind of crazy, but I’m tired of being so comfortable… Here in Colorado we have absolutely no ocean around us, so I just wanted to be the complete opposite of what I’m used to.”

Peroni also needs a shake-up.

“He was just tired of being in and out of the same routine every day. He said when this [cruise information] He opened his inbox, read the message, and immediately knew he was going to do this. “

The ship is expected to set sail in the coming weeks and Perroni and Hassani will be able to enjoy time at sea together – although Hassani “absolutely, absolutely loves Belfast”.

“I think this is a beautiful, fun, lively, resilient community. I’ve never met friendlier people in my life. The bars are amazing. The culture is great. The architectural design blows my mind.

“This country is spectacular. If there was more sunshine, I would be here forever.”
