Most Men Are ‘Invisible’ on Dating Apps — Here’s How to Stand Up

It’s a man’s world — except on dating apps.

The vast majority of men are “invisible” when it comes to pursuing romance online, with women only considering a handful of men as potential partners, a psychologist has said.

Dr. Orion Talaban makes this claim on his popular podcast, CEO Diaries, and then offers some advice on how those who don’t have the skills can improve themselves and become more qualified.

“Most men are like wallpaper, and when men don’t need anything, the world doesn’t treat them well,” said Talaban, who said young men were particularly disadvantaged.

“Life is actually very hard for young men, you don’t get what women or more experienced men want or need, and you’re generally easily discarded – unfortunately, we’ve seen this,” the California-based doctor added. “The mortality rate for young men is very high.”

Talaban claims that women are more likely to choose men who appear to have money or specific skills – selling points more often attributed to older men.

However, Tara Ban, author of the new book The Value of Others: Understanding the Economics of Relationships to Get (and Keep) More of What You Want in the Sexual Marketplace, has some advice for lovelorn lads looking for a lady.

“I think men can dress better, they can pay attention to their physical health, which for some men is as basic as hygiene,” he said, adding that women are also attracted to well-groomed men on the app.

The psychologist said men should invest in some stylish clothes to better attract attention and boost their confidence.

“By far, one of the best things a man can do is spend a thousand or two thousand dollars on two or three really nice outfits; wear them on a date,” Talaban said.

“If you’re the best-dressed man in the room, you get one point,” the expert said. “Men just need to put on their clothes and get a nice haircut, but for whatever reason they refuse to do that.”

For men who may not have the genetic advantage, psychologists say it’s important to appeal to a woman’s mind.

He said the two sexes had “very different” communication styles – and men should learn how to communicate with women.

“If you can learn how to talk to a woman in a way that makes her want to listen and respond, you’ll be able to do all kinds of things and have all kinds of relationships,” he declared.

“A lot of it has to do with atmosphere — women communicate very differently than men.”
