Sexual attraction in a rehabilitation setting
All daily inspiration can be found in the book Sex and Porn Addiction Treatment and Recovery. This article is used with permission from the author.
To overcome this, a person must focus on goals and outcomes rather than temporary distractions.
Not surprisingly, many sex and porn addicts who are newly in treatment and recovery find themselves sexually or romantically attracted to people in their treatment or 12-step recovery groups. This is the addiction fighting back, trying to take control again. It is important for the recovering addict to not act on these feelings. A better option is to discuss the attraction with someone who is not involved, usually a treatment group facilitator or 12-step sponsor, although anyone actively involved in sexual recovery can do this. Eventually, these feelings of attraction will pass, and we are always glad we did not act on them.
