Lovense Remote App Help

Hi, recently bought an Edge 2 to use with a long distance partner. I was wondering how the game and music sync and modes work at long distance? Because when I connect to them and try to click on modes etc, it says I need to end live control to do this. Are these features only available when we are close to each other?
