The hidden dangers of screen time: How it affects your

My son and daughter-in-law are very good about limiting their grandchildren’s screen time. I’m glad about that because there’s a growing body of scientific research showing that too much screen time has all sorts of bad effects on kids. And it’s not just about what they watch. While that’s concerning, too much screen time can be harmful, even with good content.

There is less data for adults, but we do know that more screen time is associated with a greater risk of depression, and more social media use is even more damaging.

Beyond that, I’m seeing more and more discussion about how screen time affects marriages. That’s not a good thing! The more screen time, the less connected we are to our spouse. This makes us less happy in our marriage. This increases the risk of adultery, divorce, or becoming roommates, etc.

I also started seeing studies showing a negative correlation between screen time and sexual frequency: in one British study, a third of married people said screen time got in the way of their sex life.

Of course, there is the issue of cause and effect here. If your wife doesn’t give you the time you want, you may turn to your phone as a result. For many people, it’s a vicious cycle.

You can’t change your wife, but you can make smart choices for yourself. Make yourself available and set an example.
