Playing the Victim – Sex and Relationship Healing

If you continually view yourself as a victim, you continually ignore the blessings of the day.
Many sex and porn addicts, even though our sexual behaviors are clearly harming not just ourselves but our loved ones (and possibly others), somehow see ourselves as the victim. This is a form of denial. We insist that we feel overwhelmed by and at the mercy of others in our lives, and that sexual fantasy and activity gives us a sense of control that we don’t otherwise feel. We see ourselves as overburdened by the demands of others—especially those close to us—for support, validation, attention, etc. Unfortunately, feeling like a victim leads to feeling entitled to act out, which leads to the behavior itself.
Task for Today
View yourself as an active participant in your life and your addiction, rather than as a victim.
