Cock rings, how tight do they need to be?

So me (24M) and my partner (21F) are trying some things in the bedroom and one of them is a cockring (Durex pleasure ring) for enhanced boners and more pleasure (presumably). When I had mine on however I definitely got an enhanced boner, to the point where the veins were really popping and I started to note a slight discoloring (either more red or hints of purple, couldn’t tell cuz it was dimly lit) and I got a little scared so I just took it off and had sex like regular. It didn’t really feel off, I could definitely feel it throbbing and it looked more enhanced, but I don’t know if I should buy a bigger one or if this is just “supposed to be it.” Maybe I got into my own head too much and that caused discomfort?
