I’m excited to announce that my study abroad program in conjunction with the Sexual Health Alliance is back for another year! We are offering study abroad courses in both Amsterdam and Berlin focused on sex and culture, both of which will take place in May 2024. Join us in one or both cities for this once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity!
Each course offers students the chance to perform a comparative analysis of sexual attitudes and behaviors in Europe and the United States. The Netherlands and Germany each provide a fascinating cultural contrast in several key areas, including:
- Sex education policies
- Legal approaches to sex work
- LGBTQ+ movements and history
- Sexual health outcomes
- Kink, BDSM, and other sexual practices
These courses are designed for sex educators, therapists, and researchers at all levels, from students to professionals; however, it’s also open to anyone who just wants to travel and expand their knowledge. In addition to learning from me (someone who has taught academic study abroad courses for years), there will be a variety of guest speakers, including local sex educators. We will also go on several sexuality-related excursions, including touring a sex museum and a visit to the Prostitution Information Center in Amsterdam, where there will be a presentation and Q&A with a local sex worker. In Berlin, we’ll take you inside a sex toy factory! You will also be immersed in the local culture of both cities through bicycle tours, food tours, large group events, and free time to explore the city.
For qualified professionals, AASECT continuing education credits are included in the course, so this is an opportunity to earn your CEs while visiting another part of the world and broadening your global perspective.
If you’re interested in participating, you can find full details on the program and registration for Amsterdam here and, separately, for Berlin here. Early registration is highly encouraged because we are working with a limited class size in order to provide a more personalized experience. Partner tickets are also available if you want to bring someone special with you.
Hope to see you in Amsterdam and/or Berlin!
