So you want to take boudoir photos for your significant other, or maybe just for yourself. Boudoir photography is an incredible way to show yourself some love and give your confidence a little (or big) boost. Plus, you’ll 100% have something to show for it when you’re done: a delicious, seductive, and unique photographic proof of your gorgeous body and soul.
That said, if stripping down to lingerie (or less) in front of a stranger isn’t for you, and/or you’re on a budget and can’t afford a pro, then hosting a DIY boudoir photoshoot may be just what the goddess ordered!
Consider the following 8 tips and tricks for taking beautiful and exciting boudoir photos at home!
1. Equipment, cleaning materials
While a DSLR camera and a helpful friend/partner could take your boudoir photos to the next level, all you really need to have an awesome DIY photoshoot is your phone (iPhone cameras are the best, let’s face it), and some inspiration! Tip: Make sure to wipe down your lens beforehand. While a tripod and remote aren’t necessary, they save you from having to prop your phone up with furniture and/or books, or set a timer and rush to get your shot. tripod is affordable, comes with a ring light, And a remote control! Just make sure the remote stays hidden, of course. After the shoot, you can use a free app like Snapseed to edit your photos if needed.
2. Choose the right background
As for the location, simple is perfect. Your bedroom, a couch, a bathtub, or even an outdoor spot can all do the trick. Just make sure to pick a spot where you feel comfortable posing with abandon, babe. White sheets/pillows/curtains tend to be a great choice for a clean, minimalist look. No matter where you land, always make sure there are no obnoxious or distracting objects in the background. The focus should be on you, not a box of condoms or your history textbook, you say?
3. To wear or not to wear?
Your outfit can be whatever you want. sexy lingeriejewelry and/or high heels can be fantastic additions to any boudoir photoshoot, you can and should wear whatever makes you feel truly sexy, no matter how unconventional your choices may be (men’s underwear or a tie, anyone?). Because when you feel truly sexy, you are more comfortable, you are more yourself, and that will 100% come across in any photos you take. You can always go nude if that’s how you feel most comfortable, or you can experiment with wearing sheets or blankets. You.
4. Well done to you
Choose The right props can make your boudoir photoshoot even more striking. Props can help you create the mood you want, whether it’s relaxed, playful, bold, flirty, provocative, or all of the above. You can harness the power of pillows, mirrors, feathers, chairs, plush pink handcuffs, teddy bears, flowers, weird hats. But remember: less is usually more. In other words, be selective. Any props you add to the mix should accentuate You.
5. Light up
There is no need to buy expensive lighting fixtures. If you want to experiment with darkness and warm light (always flattering), you can light a few candles and see where the night takes you. Otherwise, natural daylight can work wonders! For soft, natural lighting, move closer to a window. If the light is too bright or direct, try diffusing it with a white/translucent sheet or curtain. The direction of your light source is also important. To highlight the curves of your beautiful body, take advantage of backlighting. Front lighting can make minor imperfections less visible. To highlight your facial features, you can turn your face to the side.
6. Admit it
When it comes to your facial expressions, just be yourself, be natural. Since this is easier said than done, you can try relaxing your mouth and keeping it slightly ajar rather than closed. Stretching your chin up or to the side can create a more flattering jawline. If you love makeup and know how to use it (or have a friend who fits this description), go for it, although it’s not at all necessary, a well-done makeup look can eliminate unwanted shine, dullness, dark circles, etc.
7. Strike a pose
Your poses are everything! Never be afraid to get creative. That said, here are a few hawt AF pose which are easy to make and tend to work very well in the proverbial boudoir:
– Belly down: Lie on your stomach, raise your legs and run your fingers through your hair. You may need to position the camera above eye level to capture your whole body!
– Legs in the sky: This will make any person have long and shapely legs. You can keep your legs straight or bend one. Meanwhile, your hands can play in your hair or rest lazily on your chest.
– Leaning on your heels: This one is great for drawing attention to your epic ass. Simply kneel down and rest your weight on your heels, coyly looking over your shoulder at the camera.
– On the sidelines: Lie on your side and lean on one arm while stretching your legs for days, one leg over the other, to better highlight your voluptuousness.
– From the top : Keep your chin up and your back arched as you look at the camera hanging above you. This overhead pose draws attention to your chest and legs. What a dish.
– Overall : With your legs bent and your feet pointing towards the sky, lie down and arch your back as if your body were a bridge to happiness. You can also stretch your arms above your head for added effect.
8. The fun is in the details
There is no rule that says you are limited to Full-body shots. By focusing on certain details, you have the power to draw the viewer’s attention to the curve of your neck, your slightly parted lips, the lace hem of your bra, or the small of your back.
While it’s much easier to relax during a photoshoot in the privacy of your own space than in a professional photographer’s studio, if you’re not used to being in the boudoir spotlight, so to speak, make yourself confortable is easily half the battle. Get in the mood by dancing to music that turns you on, or getting weird or goofy, depending on your needs. Invariably, the best captures will be the ones where you’re enjoying (and therefore living) the moment. Ultimately, if you choose to share your photos with a partner, you can print them out for a photo album-style gift, share them via a private digital album, or maybe even Text them one by one when you are separated.
Whatever you do, have fun, you daring creator. <3
