7 Dating Rules for Men for “High Maintenance” Singles
She was exciting the bachelors in New York.
A New York City single has sparked widespread debate after sharing a list of “minimum rules” for men on first dates, with some critics calling her “high maintenance.”
Luck, who is in her twenties, told the Washington Post that dating for single women in New York was a “complete shithole,” saying men were “either gay, too good to be true, or just outcasts.”
“People in the suburbs will never understand this,” Luck faltered. “Like the best man in the world, this guy who looks like a king is actually pure evil.”
So the jaded dater created the rules and posted them to her X account, which quickly racked up over 1 million views and sparked a lot of controversy.
“1. Pay the bill (if you split the bill, I will never speak to you again and I will slander you),” Luck wrote, listing her seven rules by rejecting the idea that women should now split the bill equally.
“2. Open the doors (all doors) – I don’t touch the doors,” the single then said.
“3. Let her order first 4. Let her sit at the booth (obviously) 5. Offer to give her a ride home/drive/Uber – to prove you’re not a huge dork,” Raq continued. “6. Don’t mention your ex, your situation, or ‘I used to talk to this girl.’ 7. Sidewalk Rules — If you didn’t know, that explains why you’re single.”
Many X users responded to the rules, expressing their agreement.
“It’s simple, but it’s still complicated,” one frustrated woman sympathized.
“Standard etiquette, anything less than this basic standard is out of the question,” another chimed in.
However, hundreds of people flocked to the comments section to express their anger at Raq’s inclusion on the list.
“It’s funny how ‘minimum’ for men always comes with maximum rights for women,” one retorted.
“I don’t disagree, but your tone, especially on the second point, makes you sound high maintenance and undateable (unless I’m drunk/desperate),” another said.
Raq has become popular for sharing provocative lists on X and Instagram, some of which appear to be, at least in part, tongue-in-cheek.
She has been hosting remix events with the theme “Make America Hot Again” in the hope that she and other singles can meet “normal urban conservatives” in real life. She said she was a political moderate.
“The whole conservative wing is saying, ‘You have to get married before you’re 22, which is like milking cows in a skirt on a farm.’ Like, I just don’t do that,” she said
Her next event, titled “Death by Dating Apps,” will be held in New York this month.
“It was kind of a hodgepodge,” Luck said of the crowd. “It’s really just about finding those cool, normal conservatives. We’re kind of like bar stool conservatives… Me and my friends, you know, like we drink, we like to have a good time.”
