12 Coming Out Stories From The Bellesa Community | Sex Toys

We asked the Bellesa community to share their coming out stories in honor of Pride Month. Here are some of your stories!

1. “I came out to a friend in high school and I was freaked out because I was dating a guy and I didn’t want him to break up with me because of it. My friend convinced me to tell him and he told me it was okay and he kind of figured it out already lol. We’re married now 💖”

2. “My dad said, ‘I don’t care who you date, as long as you keep your car clean.’ Spoiler: it’s still not clean and I’m still gay.”

3. “I came out to my parents at 14 and it didn’t go as planned lol… No, they didn’t yell at me or kick me out, but they were extremely confused and distressed and my mom was crying. It was over the next couple of weeks, after seeing my depression and suicidal thoughts increase, that they finally came around and accepted me. It took me a while to get used to it of course, but soon enough they were calling me by my new name and he/him pronouns 🙂 I started testosterone at 16, had breast surgery at 18, and am having a hysterectomy later this year!! I will say that the level of support from most of my loved ones is uh… questionable at best, but I really don’t care. I’ve been living my life happily as a gay man for almost 8 years now, with the support of my parents, sister and one of my grandparents, and that’s really what matters to me in the end 🙂 »

4. “I wrote a note to my mother at a Southern Baptist church. She said, ‘OK.’”

5. “My sister asked me, ‘So what’s your official sexuality?’ And I said, ‘Oh, I’m bisexual. I didn’t realize I had to say that, it seemed obvious,’ and she said, ‘I did, that’s why I asked.’” 😂”

6. At Thanksgiving, my grandmother asked me if I had a boyfriend and my drunk cousin yelled, “She’s gay, you idiot.”

7. “In 2019, at age 43, I came out as pansexual. In 2023, at age 47, I came out as non-binary! I’m going at my own pace!” ❤️❤️”

8. “In the early days of the Internet (2000), email servers would sometimes go down. When this happened on a home network, all emails would go to the primary email address. All emails from my secret girlfriend, that is… to my conservative parents’ emails. I was outed to parents who didn’t accept it – it *almost* destroyed me, but my friends saved me. My chosen family, my husband, my four-legged friends, art, books, music, love, heartbreak… they all saved me over and over again. The thing I learned most from being outed was what happened AFTER. My life became infinitely better when I stopped hiding and started owning myself. Was it perfect? ​​No. Has it been quite the ride? …. Oh fuck yes. Be yourself, trust that your family will find you if your biological family isn’t what you need. Keep existing, you are needed here more than you know. ❤️🏳️‍🌈💜💙”

9. “I wrote a letter to my parents and my eyes widened when I read it. My dad gave me a big hug and asked if I liked Cherry Chapstick (a reference to the Katie Perry song). 😆🏳️‍🌈❤️”

10. “My older sister was doing my hair while I was telling her about a friend who was pansexual and what that meant and she asked me “are you?” I hesitated for a second (we were raised very Catholic) and said “no…” and she asked me “are you something else?” and I said “…maybe bi, I don’t know”. I was a little nervous because my hair was actively in her hands and she just hummed and said “it’s okay. Not everyone knows.”

11. “I called my mother-in-law and was nervous about her reaction. I said, ‘I think I’m bisexual.’ And she said, ‘NOW ME TOO!’ And it was so empowering and wonderful. The best reaction I could ask for from a parent :)”
