I believe these little guys have their place. First, they are very cheap (ranging in price from less than $10 to up to $30). This is great for people who are just starting out with sex toys or are on a budget.

Yes, the wires are clunky and not sexy, but a secondary benefit is that they extend the life of the batteries (the DC ones, not the remotes).

What to look for

Colt XTREME Turbine Bullet

This is a basic cordless toy. There are two speeds, a simple remote, and the bullet head is made of body-safe plastic. At around $10, it’s a great deal. As long as the seams around the insertable part remain intact, I don’t think there will be any danger.

However, quite a few people have said that the toy is not usable straight out of the packaging, so keep your receipt just in case. Also, there is a problem with the silver paint flaking.

All in all, it has a rating of 3.5/5 stars on Amazon (which is normal for a toy like this) out of over 600 reviews.

Teardrop Bullet

It’s the cheapest of the lineup today, so you can imagine you might run into the “you get what you pay for” issue. Still, it’s fine for your first try, or even as a gag gift for a spicy party. Oddly, it seems to be rated higher than the Colt XTreme, but I’d take that with a grain of salt.

Another way to save money is by not using commercial packaging. This means the toy will be packaged in bubble wrap and a cardboard box.

Many people will go and buy it because they know the name. But remember, just because they are good at making condoms doesn’t mean they are good at making toys – I say this because user reviews from multiple sites are of a similar nature to other cheap bullets.

It’s also worth noting that prices vary widely from seller to seller.

CLIMAX Silky Touch Egg

The one we bought is a little more expensive (around $30 tops out), and the difference is noticeable. There are a lot more settings and speeds, and the bullet has a few bumps. The controls are simple – one button for the mode, one dial for the speed. The twisted cord can be hard to keep clean, but overall I think it’s a solid toy (there are only three customer reviews, so a 5-star rating isn’t that important).

I was happy to see the textured options…until I saw the material – jelly. Burn this toy and spread the ashes where they bury our nuclear waste. I don’t care if the sleeve falls off. I will not pay for any part of this product.

Another Cal Exotics product – you’ll notice these everywhere (especially on the cheap toys). It’s very similar to the Teardrop bullet, except they don’t tell you what the slide is made of. They also say the controller and bullet Not waterproof……

This means that if you want to use it for penetration (and I guess for external sex) you have to wear a condom – you can do this and it makes cleanup easier, but it’s a bit of a hassle. No thanks.

Four-speed Bullet Rabbit

The bunny bullet concept is cute. You can also see through it to see the vibrator inside. My problem is the material – TPE. It’s not harmful to your body, just too porous. This means you either have to choose a condom or be prepared to throw it away sooner rather than the ABS plastic version. But for ten bucks, it won’t be a tragedy, I guess.

CLOUD 9 Pleasure Bullet

The double slug is fun because you can use the extra one to play with a partner or use it on other parts of the body. Looks nice and good enough to use a few times, but no reviews to compare. There are also two rings that I assume are used to attach the slugs, but I’m not sure what they are for. You can buy worse ones though, so it might be worth a try.

Luminous Double Bullet

This one is the same teardrop shape we saw before, but now it has an extra bullet and it glows in the dark. I know sexy moments can sometimes be pitch black, but the “light” thing makes it feel more novel than practical. Plus, it’s just an extra ingredient in the plastic, and we don’t know the details. If I were paying for it, I’d probably pass on this one.

Bedtime Tips

I’m glad it’s not another CalEx toy. There are two bullet options – one for precision aiming and one for wide aiming. However, you can’t use both at the same time (even though the pictures show that). Complaints range from a stiff on/off button to a short cable. There aren’t many issues with the strength of the toy, so that aspect should be fine.
