Strengthen your marriage by serving others

Today is #GivingTuesday, a campaign following Black Friday and Cyber Monday all about radical generosity. Lori and I usually start our year-end giving campaign on GivingTuesday, and I’ll remind you of that at the bottom. But I want to talk about the concept of giving in general.

There’s a lot of need out there.

Last month I became a board member of The Greenhouse, a local food and clothing bank. A few days before Thanksgiving, I worked with volunteers to package 250 turkey meals for our clients. We transport a lot of food, but we’ve only scratched the surface. Over the next year, I will work to gain more support from area churches and help build alliances with other food banks in our area. This is part of my effort to be extremely generous.

I have suggested more than once that volunteering as a couple can be good for your marriage. Food banks are a great way to do this and most of them are always looking for help. You can also help homeless people or adults with literacy. The YMCA needs volunteers, as does the meal delivery service. Catchafire matches your skills with nonprofits that need them, and VolunteerMatch makes it easy to find needs near you.

As for Lori and I, we are able to do some things about our marriage because of the generosity of people like you. Please pray to help us help others. Link below.
