New York is the ‘worst’ city in the US for dating, study finds

Searching for love in the Big Apple is futile.

A mad dash through the concrete jungle in search of your soulmate just isn’t worth it, with New York City ranked as the “worst” place to hunt for honey, according to a new study.

“New York may be the city with the most singles. But it’s also the worst city in the country to start dating,” researchers at sex-fetish website FetishFinder said in a press release.

The boroughs have long been accused of being less than romantic breeding grounds.

Those frantically searching for a partner have described the city’s dating scene as “cruel” and, unfortunately, rife with singles unwilling to commit.

“I felt like I walked into a candy store and there were so many great options,” Preston Rakovsky, a 23-year-old bachelor from Greenpoint, previously told The Washington Post. “I kept walking down the aisle and I kept seeing something better than what I had in my hand.”

And those Gothamites who are ready to settle down refuse to do so unless the potential lover meets (or exceeds) their extremely high standards.

“Money is good,” a 24-year-old New York dater told The Washington Post in May. “Private jets make everything better.”

“I would never date a man [who lives] “In Queens,” another chimed in. “And I’d do some intensive tracking before committing to someone who lives in Brooklyn or Jersey.”

But the experts at FetishFinder didn’t go around collecting dating advice from single people across the country on what they should and shouldn’t do when dating.

Instead, researchers gathered data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Google Keyword Planner and Numbeo to determine which of the 20 largest cities in the U.S. ranked highest and lowest for love.

Analysts considered six key metrics for each hotspot: the number of singles, likelihood of marriage, annual divorce rate, percentage of individuals actively seeking a relationship, quality of life and cost of living.

Singles in Seattle, Washington can breathe a sigh of relief, as their home turf is the perfect place to date, the report says.

“Despite its high cost of living,” the authors said, “Seattle ranked second for quality of life and had the highest number of people actively seeking relationships each month.”

“If you’re looking for love, Seattle should definitely be on your list of destinations.”

Second place behind the Emerald City is Denver, Colorado, and third place is Dallas, Texas.

Indianapolis, Indiana, and Austin, Texas, rounded out the top five love gold mines.

Unfortunately, however, due to their poor performance in the study, cities such as Los Angeles, California, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Illinois, and San Antonio, Texas have joined the ranks of cities that never sleep and have become sinkholes for hopeful couples.

New York City’s low score was due to its “high cost of living, low quality of life and high divorce rate.”
