Entrepreneur Lauren Rose Kocher’s perfect day in Tokyo
In our Perfect Days column, we ask famous bosses to share how they can spend their ideal day in their hometown.
Lauren Rose Kocher has lived in Tokyo since 2008, working in music and other creative fields. She is CEO of the Las Vegas PR Group and has been inheriting two other businesses since last year from her late husband, Kaito Yamamoto, her fashion brand son of cheese and grilled cheese restaurants.
Here is how she spent her ideal day in Tokyo:
My perfect day in Tokyo was…
I like having breakfast at home with two kids. On the weekend, I flipped between a beautifully cooked western and Japanese breakfast. But if I’m honest, my perfect day would include a babysitter so I could go to the art museum alone.
My favorite museum in Tokyo is National Museum of Modern Art. It just adds a lot of let Arp sculptures, it spins Nihonga’s masterpieces on the third floor, which always shocks me, but the biggest for me is the War Records record. Modernism includes World War II, and the museum correctly emphasizes the art of this period, which is so unusual because living in Tokyo you can hardly see visible memories of the war. This is painful but meaningful, so it is difficult to explain the artist’s intentions. The paintings are dark and dramatic and I want to know what they really think.
If it weren’t for my vacation mom, I’d visit Nezu Museum In Aoyama’s pre-modern art, gorgeous masterpieces of lacquerware and ancient Chinese pottery. There is a spacious and hilly Japanese garden connected to the museum and is dotted with teahouses – a must see. I’ll have lunch at Saba Restaurant aoyama Chuankamian.

In the evening, I went to a kid-friendly restaurant with my kids- Sushino Midori Syun At Yoyogi-uehara Station. My kids love sushi, which we can’t make at home.
On this perfect day, if I had another adult help me with the kids, I would love to end with the end of all of us heading to the shower – Ensen is another thing I like most about living in Japan. Maenohara Onsen Sayano Yudokoro In Itabashi, there are the best water in Tokyo. One day, I was chatting with an older woman there and she asked me if I lived nearby, I said no, I asked her if I lived nearby, and she said no. We just stared at each other on purpose. Worth a visit.

The most freshest secret in Tokyo is…
You can do this cool activity: Riding a Mario Kart around Tokyo! just kidding. I love Jindaiji area In Chofu. The temple complex, Soba restaurant, nearby botanical gardens and an amazing Onsen, Yumori No Sato. It’s not like Tokyo.
What I’ve always wanted to try is…
As I get older, I’m becoming more and more obsessed with ceramics and tableware, so I want to visit Business,,,,, Mino and Alita Soon – a region with a long history of ceramic production.
