Book Review·Lesbian Review
A Matter of Courage by Sabrina Blaum is a slow-burn, age-gap celebrity love story between two women who can’t seem to stay apart.
When veteran actress Katherine Johnson discovers that the newest addition to her TV series is a masked stranger she once kissed at a costume party, she’s stunned and furious that Hannah Lane doesn’t even remember her.
For the pragmatic and conservative Hannah, in broken time It’s a dream come true. But what she didn’t expect was that her famous co-star would show cold hostility towards her. Sparks fly – whether from the constant friction or from the undeniable pull toward each other that neither side can fully acknowledge.
When Kate’s defenses begin to crumble, she’s faced with a choice: continue to protect her heart, or take a terrifying leap with Hannah into something real that feels like it can change everything.
writing
A question of courage presents a delightful celebrity age-gap romance that balances snarky banter with plenty of passion.
The story delves into so many levels—past trauma, TV life, jealousy, raising pets, vulnerability, even volunteering—without feeling crowded.
Each element fits naturally into the larger picture, making the characters and their journeys feel both real and relatable. The dialogue is particularly wonderful; it’s witty, engaging, and very real. Kate and Hannah are written with great depth, and their flaws and insecurities make them feel completely human.
Watching how they deal with their growing feelings for each other and the chaos that celebrity life brings is fascinating and fun to read.
Pros and my favorite part
A question of courage Full of subtle nuances that made me want to savor every page. Kate and Hannah are both strong, independent women shaped by their pasts, which add real depth to the way they see the world. Hannah’s lifelong social challenges make her honesty and forthrightness all the more refreshing, and Kate’s ability to not only understand but truly support her creates a dynamic that feels like a perfect match.
The chemistry between Kate and Hannah is off the charts. From the moment Hannah stepped onto the set broken timethe friction between them only intensifies the tension. Their banter, eye rolls, and little digs make every scene between them that much more addictive. What I like even more is how their conversations change over time, from sharp and snappy to real and sincere. It makes their growing connection feel more genuine and intoxicating.
i really enjoy being around broken time put. Hollywood is a fickle world where it’s everyone out for themselves and money always talks, and this book does an excellent job of highlighting ageism and the hurdles actors have to jump through to maintain their status. What I love most is that the Hollywood setting is more than just window dressing, as it actively shapes the characters’ struggles and decisions, adding extra tension to Kate and Hannah’s journey.

comprehensive, A question of courage This is a smart, engrossing, and engrossing read.
The romance between Kate and Hannah is full of tension, steam and genuine heart, while the Hollywood setting adds real stakes and depth. With its well-developed characters, witty dialogue, and just the right amount of fun, this book had me hooked from start to finish. If you like a romance that’s both fun and heartfelt, this one is definitely worth picking up.

“We are under no obligation to be friends or get along.”
“Of course not. I’m generally popular, and—
Kate raised an eyebrow. “What?” Am I breaking some kind of quota? “
Hannah’s jaw tightened. “You’re talking nonsense. No, I’d rather be unpopular for a reason.”
“Maybe I don’t like your face.” Kate crossed her arms and resisted the urge to bang her head against the nearest wall as the heat turned her cheeks scarlet.
Hannah’s brows furrowed. “What happened to my face?”
“I never said there was anything wrong with it. Just that I didn’t like it. Actually, I didn’t say that – I was just making a point.”
She could barely get out the words: “Your face is so beautiful it hurts to look at it, just like it did back then.” Although she thought Hannah had probably heard the first part before, and the last thing she needed was Kate expressing such emotion.
“It still doesn’t make sense. You can’t reject someone just because you don’t like the way they look!”
“I can dislike you because I don’t like your shoes or the way you wear your hat.”
Hannah’s eyes dropped to her feet, then back to Kate. “My shoes? I’m not even wearing a hat!”
Kate rolled her eyes. “I mean, you don’t need a good or logical reason to dislike someone. Experience is enough.”
Hannah’s lips became thinner and her eyes narrowed again. “Okay. Maybe you don’t need a reason to dislike someone, but don’t lie to me. It’s not my face that bothers you.”
