Ancient port structures discovered in Corsica –

Excavations on Cap Corse, a peninsula at the northern northern end of Corsica, from the late ancient times to the remains of the port structure, date back to the 4th and 5th centuries, excavated from a team from the French National Institute of Preventive Archaeology (Inrap) to the expose overlooking Meria Bay before construction. They found large schist blocks and bases, indicating that there were once wooden structures that once stood above them. Archaeologists believe this is a wooden dock.

These overall lengths exceed 1.50 m and appear to be deposited in disorderly manner, but without adhesive, but still form a very localized Riprap Cordon. Then, they are topped with thin hydrogen sequences, probably associated with the onset of waterway overflow, followed by alternating stone positions (shale chips) and silty sediment contributions, forming a flat stone surface of 4 to 6 m wide and with a length of 13 m.

Thus, this development extends to a thickness of nearly 80 cm and is therefore an extension of the matrix, which relies on it and allows the ground to be obtained from the riverbed. The slightly larger block is located on the northern edge of the construction and serves as support for the structure.

The stone platform looks rough and chaotic, but structured and requires a lot of effort and planning to complete. The design shows that this is a dock or a dock where the ship is moored and its cargo is unloaded. Nearly 100 metal objects have been found, many of which are bronze nails used in wooden superstructures.

Due to the discovery of more than a thousand ceramic fragments in the archaeological layers, the history of this structure can be traced back to ancient times. Few late ancient remains were found in Corsica, so the discovery provides archaeologists with a unique opportunity to study period.
