Art inspired by the city and the earth

The hotel was designed by Jun Mitsui & Associates Architects with Interiors, the hotel celebrates Kisetsukan – Japanese art of seasonal awareness – through thoughtful details and clever design. Throughout the property, striking artworks respect the history of the area, many of which are made from recycled materials. At the entrance, for example, is a huge vase made of part of a demolition ship found on the northern coast of Japan. In P72, the hotel is located on the first floor of the signature restaurant, a spectacular 52-meter installation made of wood scrap from the local factory is hung from the ceiling.

Throughout the hotel, references to Osaka’s cultural heritage appear in subtle and creative ways. Its high-end Teppanyaki restaurant, about 10 meters of gold-leaf mural in Barin, traces the history of the city, from the seventh century to the present, copper flower ceilings and floral artwork draw inspiration from the architecture of Osaka Castle and the surrounding gardens.

The hotel also features works by contemporary Japanese artists and designers. On the first floor, filmmaker Takashi Makino’s immersive video wall captures the mood of Osaka’s changing seasons. In the 20th floor sonata bar and lounge, Wataru Hatano’s painting “mud” blends the soil in the construction process. Other highlights include the Indigo Spiral Staircase in Nijiri Tea Lounge and the vintage speaker walls of Sonata Bar & Lounge.

Those who want to learn more about these artworks and installations can take a special design immersion tour led by General Manager Ellen Franke.

Physical and mental health

In addition to sustainability and design, the Patina brand also focuses on health and cultural immersion. Guests staying at the hotel can enjoy a range of free experiences – from morning soundscape meetings in the old-fashioned speaker room to guided jogs through nearby castle parks, water walks, breathing classes, fermentation studios and more.

Patina also has a 1,400 m2 wellness area that offers a variety of modern technology prospective treatments beyond a typical hotel spa experience. Visitors can participate in cutting-edge therapies such as three-minute cryotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen and hydrogen therapy, far-infrared sauna and LED systemic therapy, which are said to improve the appearance of the skin. There is also a state-of-the-art fitness centre with Technogym equipment and a 20-metre indoor heated pool with stunning views of Osaka Castle.

Dining consciously

Guests can also enjoy stunning views of the castle from the terrace of the Sonata bar and lounge. It is an ideal destination for sunset cocktails before eating in a world-class restaurant in the hotel. Two of the restaurants – Iñaki and Barin – can be found on the 19th floor. The former is defined by an open kitchen and wood-burning oven that offers Japanese twists to Basque cuisine, while the latter is an intimate Teppanyaki restaurant that combines cooking abilities with dramatic talent. On the same floor is the tranquil Japanese tea lounge in Nigiri.

Back to the first floor: P72 specializes in plant-based cuisine inspired by 72 miniature seasons in Japan, each lasting about five days. The name reflects its philosophy: a keen appreciation of the subtle transformation of nature, which can be tasted in seasonal vegetables and herbs used in dishes. The on-site garden offers not only this restaurant, but also the entire property. For those who want to learn about conscious dining, P72 also hosts various workshops.

With its thoughtful integration of art, health, sustainability and community, Osaka’s Patana Osaka not only provides a luxurious place to stay, but also a gateway to deeper, more meaningful travel. It invites guests to slow down, connect and experience Osaka from new perspectives.
