23-Year-Old Reveals Problems with Modern Dating

A young Australian has revealed why he’s now fed up with the “superficial” dating scene in Australia.

Zac O’Brien, 23, a professional martial arts fighter who recently returned from Thailand, has been keeping an eye on Sydney’s dating scene.

The 23-year-old told the story of a blind date on TikTok, but there were no sparks.

O’Brien said he knew the date wasn’t going well because it was too “awkward,” but things turned around when someone else gave him their phone number.

It was a real win and a game-changer for dating.

“In general, dating in 2024 will be as difficult as finding the right psychologist,” he told news.com.au.

He said dating was “tricky” and social media made it harder to find a real connection.

“The way social media and technology are involved has created this really toxic dating stigma,” he said.

O’Brien said dating today is “superficial” and finding “Gen Z love” isn’t easy.

“I wish I was born in the 1990s,” he said.

He explained that he was tired of dating apps and the blindness of swiping and matching.

“I’d rather get to know someone more naturally,” he admits.

He explains that dating culture is now so online-based that approaching someone in public is considered taboo.

“It’s frowned upon. People think you look desperate,” he said.

“I’m a rare case. I have a weird confidence that I’m lucky, but I don’t care.”

“What’s the worst thing they can say? ‘No.'”

O’Brien also needs to focus on his health, as he suffers from heart disease.

“Yes. I’m going through health issues, but it’s not because the chicks are breaking my heart. It’s a legitimate heart issue,” he said.

He said that because of the nature of his job, it was difficult for him to meet the people he wanted to have a relationship with.

“It’s a selfish sport. Your whole life revolves around fighting, you’re hungry and you’re disciplined,” he said.

“To the average person, it seems crazy.”

O’Brien said his dedication to fighting has caused problems in past relationships because he was so committed to the sport.

Still, Mr. O’Brien is open to a relationship if the right person comes along.
